DÁRCIO LIRA JIU JITSU
Daniela Vega
I was first introduced to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu by Shihan Darlynson Lira when he opened a studio in Pleasanton with a partner. I quickly developed a passion for the sport, participating in tournaments such as the American Cup and Jiu Jitsu by the Bay, and earning my yellow belt. In the spring of 2012, I was honored to receive my blue belt under Shihan’s guidance. During this time, I also had the opportunity to coach young children in Jiu Jitsu while competing as a blue belt at events including the Darcio Lira Invitational, Jiu Jitsu by the Bay, American Cup, and NAGA.
In 2014, after competing at NAGA in both gi and no-gi divisions, I was promoted to purple belt. I later took a few years off to recover from injuries and to start a family, eventually returning to training at Darcio Lira. Through perseverance and dedication, I achieved my brown belt at the end of 2020. Most recently, in March 2024, I earned my black belt under Shihan, becoming the second woman on our team to reach this milestone.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has given me the strength, confidence, and resilience to grow as a woman. I am passionate about giving back to the community and inspiring young girls by showing them the transformative power of martial arts.
